Tenants feel ‘real fear’ as rent for one-bedroom in Vancouver exceeds $3K

With the average rent for a one-bedroom in Vancouver surpassing $3,000, Robert Patterson of the Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre has said that tenants are in "real fear" of eviction under false pretenses by landlords who want to charge more rent. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation released data showing a 19.6% increase in Burnaby and 16.2% increase in Vancouver from 2022. Federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser expressed his bafflement at the number and proposed the Housing Accelerator Fund as an incentive to help working Canadians afford a place to live.
